Department of Archeology

General Information

Mission

Archeology is a discipline which studies and interprets the socio-cultural and economic structures, beliefs and production industries of the pre-historical or historic period through the material ruins produced by the human within historical period. Within this context, the goal of the Department of Archeology is to give education, to research and do scientific studies in the field of archeology.

The mission of our department is to train students as academically and intellectually well equipped individuals who investigate, unearth, protect and document the rich historical monuments and ruins of our country, and who produce academic work and conduct researches for the benefit of society and humanity.

Another goal of the department is to encourage the students’ participation to the seminars and events in order to learn, study, analyse, discuss, and interpret the terms, views and knowledge about archaeology with social sciences research methods.

Moreover, as the department aims to be a nationally and an internationally leading department in the field of archaeology, it offers the facilities of library and laboratories to the students.

Vision

The vision of the department of Archeology is to train qualified archaeologists who are equipped with contemporary knowledge, who will unearth our country’s cultural properties using scientific knowledge, and who know how to protect and exhibit these artefacts in our museums with contemporary methods. 

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

The graduates of the Department of Archeology can work at public institutions, universities, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, private sectors, public works projects and private museums.  The students can also develop themselves participating in the excavation and surface explorations.
